Mechanical Cooling
The Phenix incorporates our two-stage Gifford McMahon (GM) cryocooler. Operating in a closed helium circuit, it consumes no helium gas to achieve the desired temperature. Cooling occurs via heat conduction between the sample stage and the cryocooler’s cold stages, with sample temperature measured at the stage itself.
Radiation Shield
Heat leaks within the Phenix are reduced by a radiation shield incorporating 0.005mm mylar windows, and the robust Phenix lid incorporates X-ray transparent windows of 0.25mm carbon fibre.
Sample Plates
A number of 20mm diameter chromium plated copper sample stages are provided with the Phenix system, including flat plate and recessed copper holders. Different materials are also available on request.
