N-Helix

Investigate Charge Density and Phase Transitions Down To 28 K

The N-Helix is our coldest open-flow cooler for crystal and capillary powder diffraction, running to 28 K and avoiding the concerns associated with liquid helium. However, helium gas cylinders only last around 16-20 hours and, even after linking multiple cylinders in a manifold for long term experiments, your supply of helium is limited and expensive. That’s why the N-Helix uses a dual flow system.

Starting with nitrogen gas, the N-Helix can get to 100 K before the nitrogen reaches freezing point. If your set temperature is lower than this, our control system will automatically switch over to your helium gas supply and bring the system down to as low as 28 K. This solution allows for an efficient use of helium gas, ensuring your valuable supply isn’t being used unless absolutely necessary.

Benefits

  • Temperature Range:  28-300 K
  • Cryogen:  Nitrogen / Helium
  • DualFlow: Nitrogen:  100-300 K
  • DualFlow: Helium:  28-100 K
  • Stability:  +/- 0.3 K
  • Cool Down:  100K in 45 mins / 28K in 75 mins

Typical Applications

  • Investigate charge density
  • Study phase transitions down to 28K
  • High-precision solution and refinement of crystal structures

NitroFlow Nitrogen Gas Generator

For laboratories that do not have an in-house supply of nitrogen, we supply a bespoke variant on the Parker Hannifin NitroFlow Nitrogen Gas Generator, which extracts pure nitrogen from the air. The generator has 2 outlet ports, providing gas at 1.2 bar for both inner and outer gas streams of the N-Helix.
